More about Greater People
Greater People
Ultimately you.
Executive Summary
At Greater People, we believe that inherent to every individual is the desire to pursue their ultimate potential. We see potential met through lifelong learning, meaningful contribution, and a healthy, balanced life. However, the framework of society and our local environments often inhibit these ideals, rather than empower them. For many, the journey toward reaching higher potential becomes daunting, shrouded, stifled or uninspired. Unfortunately at that juncture, most resign to know less, do less, and be less.
Greater People wants every individual to know more, do more, and be more. Greater People (The Organization) recognizes the vital role the social sector plays in this pursuit. We learn through its institutions, we patronize its responsible businesses, we rely on its services when we are in need, we engage with its array of organizations to advance greater good. The organizations and businesses in the social sector have a profound impact on the environments in which we live. We believe that by investing in and promoting an environment that supports the individual pursuit of potential, the end result is greater people.
Our aim is to sell the social sector. We believe that there is a direct relationship between the fulfillment we experience in life and the impact of socially minded organizations. Through our programs and services, Greater People works to strengthen the tie between the average citizen and the opportunities to live informed, engaged, healthy, and balanced lives.
We help individuals pursue their ultimate potential by showcasing the collective resources of the social sector, marketing its diverse influence in our cities, and connecting them to its opportunities. Our ambition is to make it easy for citizens to learn, engage, and live well. Our goal is “ultimately you”.
On a foundational level we work to strengthen the social sector. We survey the social landscape and assist in readying the sector’s unmet needs through Greater People’s organizational services. We operate subsidiary programs to supplement public opportunities to learn, contribute, thrive, and recreate where needed. We also encourage the sector’s advancement toward “ease of access”, by becoming inspiring, inviting, and simple, so as not to thwart an individual’s initial interest at the onset of their journey.
Our primary work is to inspire a culture of personal progress through social sector marketing and media. Through Greater People’s consumer relations services, we frame, organize, and showcase the landscape of opportunities that provides individuals avenues to advance. By working to gather and widely share stories from the social sector, we hope to incite others to work to pursue their potential as well.
In addition, Greater People strives to empower citizens to engage with opportunities for lifelong learning, purposeful work and giving, and balanced health and recreation. Greater People provides skilled Coaches to help members assess themselves, connect to resources, and be accountable to themselves in order to reach their goals.
Finally, through Greater People’s documentation services, we provide the framework for members to publicly or privately record their journey at GreaterPeople.org; whereby at any point during life, and even after, one can reference a summary of accomplishments made.
Vision. Our vision is a society of inspired citizens steadily progressing toward personal potential. A core tenet of Greater People is to “make the right thing easy”. The Organization strives to remove the barriers that often inhibit a citizen’s inherent willingness to learn, contribute, and live well. In addition The Organization will deploy projects and programs that promote personal improvement in ways that are natural to the way we live. Creating this framework and employing these necessary elements are essential to executing the mission of The Organization.
Mission. Our mission is to inspire and empower people to pursue their ultimate potential through learning, contribution, health, and recreation. This is accomplished through four program areas, each designed to address the one part of the whole person.
Values. Our vision and mission is driven by our core values. Understanding: we value the perspective we gain and growth we experience through diverse connections and the continuous exploration of many subjects. Selflessness: we value a spirit of awareness, in which we are mindful of the needs beyond our own. Health: we value activities that promote the wellness of our mind, body, and spirit. Balance: we value being intentional about keeping balance in all of the activities in our life.
Approach. Our approach accomplishing our mission is to “make the right thing easy”. We believe if an environment is established that simultaneously promotes a culture for advancement of self and greater good, and resources within that environment are unique, inspiring, and easily accessible, then citizens will naturally engage their drive toward such progress.
We can harness the power of people wanting to employ their skills for greater good through systems that not only connect people but manage part time, full time, and volunteer work between individuals and organizations. We can learn about the history and customs of a specific culture in an entertainment space that features food, facts, relics, and performances from the people of that culture. We can live healthier through fast food establishments that strictly serve local, organic, and nutritional foods and educate patrons through printed information on their containers.
These are examples of the local, easily-accessible resources that create an environment conducive to natural advancement. By showcasing, incubating, and operating these types of organizations, marketing an inspiring social sector, and providing a coach to guide individuals on their journey toward personal potential, we can start to see progress and enrichment spread throughout society.
Attributes
Highly collaborative, umbrella organizations are typically intricate by nature. Due to the complexity of Greater People, it is important to understand the legal structure that enables its broad scope of activities, and the jurisdiction in which it operates.
Formation. “Greater People” refers to the affiliation between two separate legal entities. The Foundation for Greater People (The Foundation) and Greater People Company (The Company). The Foundation is the primary entity. It is established as a 501(c)3 private operating foundation and houses all of The Organization’s philanthropic and nonprofit activities. Secondary to The Foundation is The Company. It is established as an L3C low-profit limited liability company. The Company houses all of The Organization’s for-profit activities. The Foundation and The Company work in a collaborative partnership on some, but not all activities. Furthermore, The Company owns distinct assets and operates specific activities, as does The Foundation.
Location. Greater People is structured to operate in metropolitan areas that collectively assemble a population within the range of 250,000 - 750,000. The Organization’s original chapter will be greater Long Beach, California. In structuring chapters by metropolitan areas, The Organization can partner with businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies that primarily service the same territory and share the same boundaries. This also allows The Organization to clearly define its target market and access data that is relevant to its territory. The vision of this model is to create an organizational system that can be easily tailored to fit the needs of, and be replicated in, like metropolitan areas nationwide.
Subsidiary Programs
As a private operating foundation, The Foundation will operate four programs in collaboration with The Company. Each program will exist as a subsidiary of The Foundation. The Company will supplement the subsidiaries’ work by providing organizational, location, and other services that are not directly related to public charity (see Services). The subsidiaries will serve as one of multiple, local opportunities for learning, contribution, health, and recreation. The four subsidiaries include Seek Learning, LifeMark Group, Sante Health, and Good Recreation. These entities will, respectively, inspire and empower individuals to learn, contribute, thrive, and play in pursuit of their ultimate potential.
Seek Learning. Seek Learning is an endeavor of The Organization that provides citizens unique ways to learn, grow, and experience understanding.
LifeMark Group. LifeMark Group is an endeavor of The Organization that enables citizens to engage their skills and abilities with opportunities that exist within the social sector.
Sante Health. Sante Health is an endeavor of The Organization that provides citizens with unique choices for exercising and nourishing the body, mind, and spirit.
Good Recreation. Good Recreation is an endeavor of The Organization that provides citizens with opportunities to explore, learn about, and recreate in their local area.
